About Kuru Kuru Co-operative College
KKCC conducts teaching, service and research activities. Ongoing programmes address all aspects of Cooperative business: principles, organisation, financing, structure, governance, management, leadership, marketing and related topics. KKCC serves agricultural, schools and other cooperatives. Research programmes are designed to address current issues in Cooperative business. KKCC was established in 1973 and has formed working alliances with the Guyana National Cooperative Union, Department of Cooperatives, Guyana Cooperative Credit Society and University of Wisconsin, USA.
Our responsibilities include:
Develop and implement inter-disciplinary outreach and extension programmes on cooperation.
Strengthen the cooperative movement in Guyana and international donour organisations and cooperatives, foreign government agencies and overseas organisations.
Maintain and develop course offering on cooperation throughout Guyana.
Coordinate a system-wide integrated research programme on cooperation.
Present the cooperative model and cooperation as an alternative addressing rural and urban economic community development issues.
Maintain an accessible research and historical library on cooperative endeavours- boh domestic and international.
Mission Statement:
Kuru Kuru Cooperative College is dedicated to studying and promoting cooperative action as a means of meeting economic needs of people in Guyana. The College works in rural and urban settlings to provide educational programmes and research on the cooperative form of business.

Extension and Adult Education
The Extra Mural Dept. provides education and consultancy in the establishment of cooperatives, organisation and financial analysis and long-range planning.
Ongoing activities include
Leadership and Management Workshops (three days of training) for Cooperative Managers and Committee Members offered in various setings.
Cooperative Employee's Workshop(one day sessions)
Custom design programmes. Individually designed and geared to the needs of a wide variety of cooperatives an cooperative issues.
In-service training. Cooperative model education programmes for your country-based trainer;
Individual consulting activities. Advice an consultancy to individual cooperatives, leaders and others;
Extension Radio Programme: A radio programme on "COOPERATIVES - A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU" aired one weekly on the Voice of Guyana;
Training of Board of Directors/Committee of Management. (One weekly session for coperative boards.) Topics vary and may include: Policy, leadership, Roles and responsibilities, Planning and more;
Training for the general membership. Topics vary and may include: Roles and responsibilities, governance, finance and more;
Training for the general public who would like to make business a career (1 year) at two levels;
Training for the general public who achieved low grades (3,4, and 5) at the CXC Examinations. These upgrading classes are conducted over a to year period.
Key Results
Successes in strengthening and revitalising 300 School Thrift Societie;
Successes in strengthening 15 Adult Societies;
Successes in having the Certificate in Business Studies course certificate acepted as entry requirements at University of Guyana' Faculty of Social Sciences;
In collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperatives, caused a Training Committee to be established to look at the training needs for the entire coperative movement in Guyana. Sub-committees are being set up in all regions.
